Hi, vit d doesn't have any effect on cholesterol level. And if your cholesterol is still higher after low fat, sugary and oily diet, and after regular exercises, you should take medicine. if cholesterol is high then it can have deleterious effects on the body. If your cholesterol problem is temporary then you may not need it life long. If it's permanent problem them you may need lifelong and cholesterol will again rise after you stop the medicine. It's not like you will be addicted to drug, but if you need it you should have it.
