Does The Thalamus Recovers After A Stroke?

I was diagnosed with dejerine roussy after having a stroke eight months ago, I am under gabapentin 600 mg and cymbalta to control all the pain and sensation. Is there cure for what I have? or I will live the rest of my life with pain? Does the thalamus recovers after a stroke?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dejerine-Roussy syndrome is the pain condition of a part of the body that is being affected by the stroke of the thalamus.

It is a non-stimulus type of pain and can be managed with an opiate, anti-depressant, anti-convulsant medicine, but physiotherapy is also needed.

It is an unrepeatable condition but still, can be tried. Some newer and very expensive technic are there to treat this condition such as Refractory treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
