Does The Previous IUGR Affect Current Pregnancy?

Dear doctors, I had IUGR in my first preagnancy, starting with short femur in the 21st week scan, head circ. on the upper scale, femur on the lower. Panic happened with the amnio and genetic tests, all came out ok. Untill week 27 the growth continued on its own curve, then I noticed the bleeding and I ended up in a labour room where they tried to stop my labour. Sucsessfully. I got steroids for the babys lungs and later one week of spasmex. But then the real problems started. Baby seemd to stop growing after that. No growth till the week 34, and again a little growth by the week 37. At that time I got spontaneous contractions and delivered healthy baby, 2300g and 44cm. Umbilical chord was tight around his neck 4 times. 115 cm long. Otherwise else was fine. Placenta was in the 3rd stage of calcination. So now I am again 14 weeks preagnant, they put me on the aspirin 100 from the 12 week. I am healthy otherwise. Now I am wondering what are the odds the iugr and short femur case or preterm labour rises again? Thank you.

Dear member,
Thanks for writing.
The IUGR if it was due to preeclampsia or ANTI PHOSPHOLUPID ANTIBODY SYNDROME in first pregnancy, has a good chance if recurring.
preterm labor if due to infection dies not recur.
If you had a short cervix or cervical incompetence then the risk if preterm labour is high.
You should continue aspirin. Also take arginine daily and amino acid supplements.
You can undergo ultrasound and Doppler of uterine artery in early pregnancy that will tell you the risk of any problems.
Best of luck.
Please write back to Dr bhagyashree if any queries
