Does The Medication Appropriate For Asthma And Allergies?

I am a 54 year old female that has had allergies and asthma for over 20 years. We recently moved to the Northwest and had to change doctors. The allergist that I went to took me off the Flovent that I was using and put me on shots. After two years of getting 6 shots a week for all the allergies that I have, I was not improving at all. So I went to another allergy doctor, who put me on a maintenance level of Prednisone, This worked wonders but I gained a lot of weight and my gynecologist was worried about bone density. Now I m at a point where I m not sure what to do. I am taking Singulair for the asthma and Nasacort for the allergies. I currently have no allergy doctor, just my Primary. She has suggested that I go back on Flovent and has written a prescription. Does this seem like the right course of treatment or is there something better that I should be doing?

Hello.

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. I would agree with your current treatment with Montelukast (Singulair), intranasal corticosteroid (Nasacort) and Flutixasone propionate (Flovent).

If above drugs are able to control all your allergy-asthma symptoms, I would completely agree with your current treatment.

2. In addition to above, I would suggest you regular breathing exercises and a healthy diet rich in vitamins & minerals to improve your lung capacity and immunity respectively.

3. As you already have had allergy testing and allergy shots, I would suggest you to avoid the substances you are allergic to. In general, I would suggest you to avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health.

Thank you & Regards.
