Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Our 15-month-old just fell and hit his head on the frame of our bedroom door. There s no vomiting and the pupils seem fine. He breathes normal and has been resting. He seems responsive too. There was a dent at first, about 1.5 cm in diameter, but we applied cold immediately and it turned into a mild sized egg bump. Why would there be a dent and now it s swelled up? Does the dent mean fracture? Will it reappear once the swelling goes down? Thank you!
Thanks for the query . The dent in skull bone is compression of fractured bone towards inside . So there is possibility of fracture and hematoma. You should not ignore it . It is good that there are no symptoms like vomiting ,which is good sign.
I would suggest you to immediately consult doctor /sugeon for proper examination to rule out fracture , hematome and other internal bleeding. Doctor may order CT scan for perfect evaluation and check the vitals . Doctor may prescribe drug like amantadine for quick recovery of injury .
For now keep eye on patient to note any changes and take acetaminophen for pain and swelling . Do not take ibuprofen or asprin in this case.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
