Does Tampon Stuck In The Vagina For Long Periods Cause Infection?
I just notice the other day that I had a tampon stuck inside me for about 2 months. I removed it. During the 2 month period I thought to have an odor that I have never noticed. I looked up home remedies and used AZO, vinegar in my water and also baking soda. I also have had intercourse and another period while I had this tampon inside of me. I removed the tampon and used the monistat one day treatment. I have not seen any discharge or smell, but in my mind I m wondering if I should still go see a doctor. What do you suggest?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Tampon left in the vagina can be very dangerous. It can lead to local infection in the genital tract. Besides causing local infection it can lead to toxic shock syndrome which is a systemic shock syndrome and if severe enough can lead to sepsis and death also. You are fortunate enough that the tampon has not caused anything severe for past two months. Despite the fact that the tampon has not cause anything serious, I still suggest you to consult your gynaecologist for clinical examination of the vaginal tract to look for any other tampon or any other problem.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
