Does Taking Synthroid Cause A Thickened Endometrium?

I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2005. I had both lobes surgically removed followed with ablation. I take Synthroid daily. I am now 62 yrs old and diagnosed with a thickened endometrium ( 2cm). Is there a direct correlation between taking thyroid hormone and thickening of the uterine lining?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Synthroid is composed of Levothyroxine (L-thyroxine), which is a manufactured form of the thyroid hormone, thyroxine. It is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency.

Endometrial hyperplasia has been noted among people who take Synthroid, especially in female who are older than 60 years, and have been taking the drug. Kindly consult gynecologist for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
