Does Taking Premarin Cream Increase The Risk Of Hyperplasia Post Menopause?

I am 4 yrs post menopause and have a history of endometrial hyperlasia. 4 yrs ago after a course of progesterone my uterine lining was OK and my Dr took me off the Progesterone as i had not had any bleeding in 10 months. I have been taking small dose Premarin cream once weekly due to severe vaginal symptoms. My Dr assures me that since i have never had any bleeding while taking this I should not have any increase risk for hyperplasia. I m just concerned if i should stop taking it. im 60 and healthy

Hi, thanks for reaching out.

I understand your concerns. Permarin is a type of conjugated estrogen used in the form of Hormone replacement therapy post menopause.

It helps in prevention of osteoporosis post menopause, but there has been noted an incidence in risk of endometrial cancer, thickening of endometrium causing fibroids, changes in mood, changes in weight, changes in sugar and blood pressure , headache are common side effects.

Hence as studies have proven that these incidences are lowered by use of a combination of HRT . It may be best to reach out to your gynecologist and see what may suit you best to what period.

Hope this helps,
take care,
Regards
