Does Taking Melmet For PCOD Cause Weight Loss?

Hello Doctor. I m un married and I m in underweight of 39kg and I m 27 years old. My doctor suggest me to take melmet 500 for polycystic in ovaries. Does this melmet 500 reduce my weight ? If so how can I get weight gain because already I m in underweight. Thank you, Dharani

Hi.

Yes, metformin does stimulate weight loss, although not much but it most certainly does.

Even in diabetics we have an abbreviation called MOST, which means metformin for the obese and sulfonylureas for the thin.

Speak to your doctor to provide you with other medications for your PCOS, as there are other options as well.
