Does Switching From Marvelon To Ginet Affect The Menstruation Cycle?

Hi I have been Marvelon oral contraceptive pill but I switched to Ginet 84 2 weeks ago (this was whenI finished the inactive tablets on the marvelon pack). However I have just experienced breakthrough bleeding midway through my cycle. Should I be worried?

Hi,
When oral contraceptive brands are switched, it takes a couple of cycles for the body to adjust to the new composition it has been exposed to. This is similar to the initiation of the pills. Thus, you may have experienced the breakthrough bleed. Yet, it is always advisable to use additional protection whenever you change the combination. You should also consult your specialist to rule out any other causes associated with the pill use and also exclude the rarest possibility of contraceptive failure leading to pregnancy. Hope this helps.
