Does stress cause irregular periods and pain during ovulation?
Hi I am 36 yr old and have a 5.5 yr old girl . My husband and I have been trying for a baby for two months and I have had irregular periods for about 4 months . Could be stress ? A little pain when ovulating . Had a /scan in December came back normal . Had a internal u/s in nov dr said it was normal but now reading results says I have a heterogenius myometrium ? With no fibroids ? Had another scan internally quickly at gyno who said I may have adenmyosis. I have been on once cyxle of 50mg chloymid and it produced some follicles but not too many . I had my ash and Fch ? Done and they were good the dr said and my husband semen analysis was also good . I am worried about whether I could have another child as we both want one and if Ivf is successful with this prognosis ?
It can imagine that is frustrating. Stress can affect periods. Other causes of irregular periods are:
(1) physical illness
(2) thyroid disease
(3) polycystic ovarian syndrome - PCOS
(4) high levels of a hormone called prolactin
(5) side effect of medication
(6) inadequate diet
With the history of a scan and normal FSH, Lh and testosterone - PCOS is not likely but the other hormones - prolactin and thyroid should be assessed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
