Hi.. Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.. I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.. As per your complain swollen tonsils can occur due to smoking as cigarette smoke can cause inflammation and swelling of tonsils due to smoke and chemicals that can cause irritation. Secondly it can also occur due to STD but is associated with other symptoms. HIV can however take years to become symptomatic and in case if you are exposed 6 months back then it is not appearing to be apparently due to HIV.. I would suggest you to first of all stop smoking.. You should start doing warm saline gargles, suck throat lozenges and also take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. In case if there is still no resolution, consult an ENT expert and get evaluated. Hope this information helps.. Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
