Does Severe Anxiety Cause Elevation In BP Levels?

I ve recently had two bp readings that were said to be rather high in the last couple of weeks. Pulse was 96 with bp of 144/123 a week or so ago. Today, pulse was 136 and bp of 144/110. I have severe anxiety and wondering if this could be a contributing factor? Everything I ve read says I m in stage 3 Hypertension and to consult a doctor. So here I am. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
