Hello.
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic forum.
The shrinkage of left kidney your father is experiencing is likely to be due to diabetes. Shrinkage in size does not mean that it has stopped working. You need to have his kidney function tests done to know the function. If the tests are normal then there is no need of any transplantation.

Sir/Madam, My wife get urinary infection 5 years ago. Ultrasound suggestd that her left kidney is shrinking and uretor not seen. Though no solid ground was known but on the basis of 40 ESR, Doctor in PGI Chandigarh started Tuberculosis treatment for 18 month. One year ago, treatment stoped. DTPA Scan showed Left kindney (shrink) is functioning only 10% while right kindly function is shown 90%. In routine check up ultrasound not suggest that left kidnly is NOT SHRINK [mean it has grown to full] (bigger then right kidney)but function of kidney is less then 5%. I am afraid, there may be some reason for its grow (may be cancer or any other thing). I discussed the issue with Urologist who suggested kidney removal. Presently, Ceretine is 1.07 and urea is within limit. My question is : 1. who is best nephrologist/ urologist to decide whether the kidney should be removed or not 2. Is Urologist is competent to remove the kidney? 2. Should I go to nephrology department for this operation. 3. Any other advise and 4. what is the cost involved in treatment.

I am a renal transplant patient. Surgery done 6 months back. After transplatation I used to take immuno suppresents like Pangraf, Cellcept and Prednisolon. Immediate after surgery my S.Creatin levels were 1.4, 1.3, 1.2 then 1.5 etc..After one month of when I checked my Tac level it was very high ie, 14.4. Then Pangraf dosage reduced for next one month. But there was no significant reduction in Creatin and then checked Tac level it shows 14.1. At that time S.Creatin was 1.7.Then stopped Pangraf and started Certican .25. A sudden increase in S.creatin and it became 2.6. My Biopsy shows ATN+ and other readings were quite normal. My Potassium and RBS are quite normal. Then started Neoral 50mg and tried 25mg, but again S.creatin level gets increased and now it is 3.6. My Doppler test parameters are normal. What would be the remedy on this problem??How it is happened like this? My donor is my brother. I am 42 Years old.

Dear Sir,

My mother has been suffering from Kidney disease. She never had any problem with BP or Blood Sugar but he has been declared to have bilateral renal parenchyma disease since 2005.

She is taking a calculated diet limiting the salt content in the food to 3 gm/day. The recent blood test conducted (2 months back) has reported bad results and the details are listed below:-

Creatinine - 7.5

Hemoglobin - 8.1

Blood Sugar (Fasting) 88 mg/DL

Urea - 150

Sodium - 131

Potassium - 4.2

What should be the next step? Is kidney transplantation the only choice? When/where should it be done? Is it getting very worse or we still have some time to go for the transplantation?

Please help.

Thanks, Kunal

Should I be concerned and call my Nephrologist?
