Hello,

As a physician, first of all, I would like to tell you that alcoholism is injurious to health. Chronic alcoholics are deficient in multiple vitamins. Common deficiencies include thiamine, folate, vitamin B6, and vitamin A deficiency. Alcoholism can affect the absorption, storage, metabolism, and activation of many of these vitamins.

Most important among this is thiamine deficiency which is an important vitamin in the normal glucose metabolism of the body. Chronic alcoholism impairs the intestinal absorption and activation of thiamine. The deficiency of thiamine can cause multiple cardiovascular and neurological manifestations like cardiac failure and memory loss. Even if you take vitamin supplements orally the absorption process will be impaired in presence of alcohol.

So it is better to gradually reduce and final stop the alcohol intake daily. In alcoholics, deficiency is usually treated in hospitals by giving thiamine infusions through intravenous fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Regular alcohol consumption can lead to vitamin deficiency. It is because of poor absorption of vitamins we consume. You better stop alcohol because even vitamin tablets won't help much if you continue alcohol. If you want to stop alcohol, you can visit any deaddiction center and start treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prashant Gohil
