Just started paroxatein for depression. Been on various tablets for years, but having a current bout of depression at the moment. Been taking these tablets for 5 days now and not slept. Also have leg weakness or fatigue. My body feels exhausted but just cant get to sleep at all. Also mood seems lower still. Can you tell me if this is side effects, and when should it stop? Thank you

Hello,
This is Dr. Papaqako answering your question.
Thank you for posting to HCM.

Yes, insomnia (not being able to sleep) is one of the side effects of Paroxetine. Thats why it is recommended to take it in the morning. This way, in a week time, the time the body will get used of it, the side effect may be less a problem.

In general it is a very good medicine, in the category that have less side effects. But, it will need at least 3 weeks to start affecting positively your mood.

Meanwhile try using other things that you like to do to help your mood. some suggestions may be to have walks in the open nature, to talk with your loved ones about your negative thoughts if/when you have, read a good book or watch a movie you like, or do things that you like to do during your day.

Hope this helps,
Take care.
