Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My spouse, a 44 yr. old male has been hospitalized 5 times in the last yr. for pacreatitis, once even being put into a coma for 10 days. His tryclicerides have been in the 5000 to6000 range and every time we go to the hospital they do the same routine until this time. After being there a wk. today, they are placing a feeding tube. I can’t help but feel that maybe they are missing something or not thinking outside the box, per se. Is it a common thing to be hospitalized this many times in a yr.. and still have no solution or resolve but to say it’s a pancreatitis flare up?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Pancreatitis is not cause high triglycerides but high triglycerides is a risk factor for pancreatitis. Diabeties, metabolic syndrome or obesity or familial hypertryglyceredemia etc. Alfa 1anti trypsin deficiency also a risk factor. If you're a alcoholic avoid it, use oral pancreatic lipase, amylase supplementation. Avoid fatty diet etc. Please check for familial hypertryglyceredemia. Please consult your gastroentrologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
