Does Painless Yet Moderate Rectal Bleeding Require Any Medical Attention?

my husband experienced a moderate amount of rectal bleeding. It was the first time this has happened. He was walking and thought he was having gas pain. He had a moderate amount of bright red blood discharge from the rectum.he said that he has never had this before. He denies pain after the discharge of blood. This was not old blood, it was bright red. I think he should be seen by a doctor, even though it has never happened before. what is your opinion on this?
