Does Pain And Swelling In The Knuckle After Removal Of An Infected Nail Require Immediate Medical Attention?

I had a finger infection from ingrown fingernail. it was so bad they had to remove entire nail. they put me on Keflex for 10 days (500mg every 6 hours). it seemed to be doing ok but I noticed it was swelling and red. now it hurts into bone and knuckle. and pain upon flexing of finger. do I need to seek medical attention right away or can it wait until I can see my primary during week?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to local inflammation.

As of now you can use analgesics/anti inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persists better to consult a physician and start on antibiotics preferably amoxclav.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
