Does Overdose Of Paracetamol Cause Bleeding In Stool And Cramps

I rang 111 last night as I accidentally took too many paracetamols as I had calpol aswell. The lady said I was just within the recommended dose and that I will be ok once I sleep it off. Today I went to the toilet and I had blood in my poo and now I have really bad stomach cramps

Hi,

Paracetamol (maximum adult dose 4 g/day) overdosage (>75 mg/kg of body weight) can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, liver failure leading to bleeding tendency due to high prothrombin time/increased INR. You can go for Liver function tests including INR.

Oral activated charcoal, universal antidote won't be effective since it should be given within an hour of ingestion. At best oral sucralfate can be taken. Consult your doctor.
