Does Losing Weight, Mucus, And No Appetite In Elderly Call For Medical Attention?
Hi, my dad is 85 & has chf ( 2yrs ago & has had heart attack 30 yrs & diabetes) & is losing weight like 4-5 lbs lbs a week seems to have lost appetite. Also green mucus and took him to eye dr thinking pink eye & she said if upper respiratory infection that it can come out in the eyes. his dr has told me end of stage but just dont know anything of the stages like we all do with cancer. So I guess my question is losing weight, mucus, cough & no appetite is anything to worry?
I can understand your concern. Losing 4-5 lbs of weight a week in too much weight loss even if he has lost appetite and is having upper respiratory tract infection. I would advise you not to ignore the situation.
You should visit a general physician and go for deeper investigations regarding your father's health like blood tests, chest x-ray etc. Based on the test results, diagnosis can be reached and management can be started.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I hope your father feels better soon!
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
