Does Leaving Chlamydia Untreated For Long Lead To Infertility?
Hi, I have just tested positive for chlamydia and starting treatment tomorrow. But I'm really worried because I think I've had it for about 10 months and I am scared that this will have made me infertile and wont be able to have kids as i really want a baby could you please reassure me?
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Chlamydial infections usually present with vaginal discharge, however, the infection can be totally asymptomatic and go unnoticed. Chlamydia can ascend up the female genital tract to involve fallopian tubes, when it can produce symptoms like lower abdominal pain, back pain and vaginal discharge. Once it involves the fallopian tubes, the ensuing inflammation can lead to scaring and subsequently to infertility. It is important to treat the infection adequately. Since the infection is acquired through unprotected sexual contact with an infected partner, therefore, I would suggest you to have sex with just one trustworthy sexual partner who has sex only with you, in order to prevent a recurrence.
