Does Intake Of Pain Medications Cause Nasty Taste In Mouth And Dry Mouth?

I have been taking multiple doses of ibuprofin and acetemetaphine for approximately 2 weeks for back pain. I now have a very nasty taste in my mouth along with the mouth and lips becoming very dry. I'm losing taste of the food I eat. Could these meds be causing the bad taste and dryness?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain medications like Ibuprofen and acetaminophen is not generally seen to cause dry mouth although it is a less commonly seen side effect of the painkillers like Ibuprofen and acetaminophen that you are taking...
Bad taste in mouth can however be seen due to these medications..

Other common causes of dry mouth that are commonly seen to cause dry mouth are:
-Severe dehydration,
-Side effects of medications if you take any.
-Salivary gland dysfunction.
-Nerve damage supplying salivary glands.
-Oral infections like thrush..
-Sjogren's Syndrome..etc..

As of now:
-For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialized mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..

If does not improve consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
