Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor... I have started having green tea since last month. And this month my period was due a month back and it has still not started. Is green tea a reason for this? If not what could be the cause. I have not had sex with my husband recently. Sp don t think that I am pregnant.
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Green tea has a very high content of anti-oxidants and caffeine so the recommended maximum daily amount is three cups. If you have been drinking more than that, it is possible that the amount of caffeine may have influenced your cycle, causing a delay. Green tea is also known to affect hormones in women leading to an increase in fertility.
I would suggest you take a pregnancy test first, just to be on the safe side. Also, reducing the amount of tea your are drinking daily to 3 or less cups is the sensible thing to do. Wishing you all the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ornela Ademovi
