Does Intake Of Antidepressants Cause Low Sex Drive?

I am a teen male, but am inactive sexually. I used to be able to masturbate very often and would get erections randomly and when I saw a person who I'm attracted to. In the past week I have been experiencing lots of stress over my sexuality and also have begun to like someone romantically, but I've noticed that my sex drive has lowered immensely and that I don't get erections while thinking about this person (or anyone else), or when I do, the erection is weak and doesn't last long. I haven't been eating a lot in the past few months and feel like that could be why, and I also take antidepressants, except the ones that I take (Valdoxan) are known for their lack of side effects. Could you please give me a reason as to why this is happening as it is making me very stressed.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related doubts

You are a teenager and have lot of stress and are on antidepressants. Persistent pervasive depression could be the reason for poor sex drive in your case. Low sexual drive is common symptom of depression.

Commonly used antidepressants like SSRIs or SNRIs or Tricyclic antidepressants are known to reduce sexual drive and libido. Though this is reversible but most of antidepressants cause reduction of sex drive. Please visit your psychiatrist to discuss about this. Drugs like Bupropion, Vilazodone etc are relatively safer in terms of sexual side effects and have good efficacy in depression. Discuss with your doctor for these drugs.

Thanks. Take care
