Does Intake Of Lisinopril Strengthen The Heart Muscle?

Does lisinopril strengthen the heart muscle? I am a 39 year old heart patient. I was born with tetrology of fallot and had a corrective surgery at 9 months. I had a pulmonic valve replacement at age 33 along with a maze procedure. When i went to my cardiologist in march he said my valve looks good but he put me on lisinopril to strengthen my heart muscle. Isnt this a high blood pressure med? Im worried about side effects.

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Lisinopril is an anti-hypertensive of the group Angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitors. It is also used to treat congestive heart failure and improve survival after a heart attack.Congestive heart failure, heart attack and congenital heart problems/heart already operated upon(your case) are considered weak and fragile and should not pump against too high blood volume.ACE inhibitors happen to help reduce or keep the blood volume against which the heart will pump at an acceptable value. You can call this "protecting or strengthening the heart".So, do not be scared, it is the right class of drugs for you.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
