My 5 and half year old child is having pain in her throat specially while swallowing any thing. on examination, her throat appears to be little red. she is getting high temperature as soon as the effect of ibugesic plus is over. This has started almost from last 12 hours. Should I start giving her Azithral 200 liquid?please guide me the dosage. She weighs 20kg. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Ma'am, Hi & Welcome.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved child.
The antibiotic Azithral (Azithromycin) is commonly prescribed to treat throat infection like tonsillitis or pharyngitis caused by susceptible bacteria.
The usual dosage is 12 mg/kg/day for 5 days.
You can administer 5 mL of the Azithral oral suspension once daily for 5 days.
Besides, continue giving Ibugesic plus every 8 hrly to reduce the raised body temperature which can also be lowered by tepid sponging, giving him/her plenty of oral fluids, juice, etc.
If the fever does't subside even after 5 days, your child needs to be examined by a child specialist.
Hope this will help.
