Does Intake Of Allopurinol Cause Gout Attacks?

I am having a gout attack right now for which I was prescribed 3 colchine tabs. I have allipurinol that I just have gotten but have not yet taken should I take it now. Had the colchicine yesterday. Ive heard allipurinol wil caise a attack when you first start taking it.

Hi & Welcome to HCM.
Yes, if taken alone during the acute attack of gout Allopurinol may cause an increase in the level of uric acid thus it may precipitate an acute attack of gouty arthritis.
It should therefore be taken after the acute attack is resolved by Colchicine or other NSAID pain killers like Indomethacin or Ibuprofen.
