Does Inflammation Of The Tonsils Causing A Sore Throat And Fever Indicate Pharyngitis?

I went to the emergency room the other night because I had a fever of a hundred and two my heart rate was 137 and my throat hurt quite badly. Well when they took a look good in my my I noticed my left tonsil was swollen at first I thought it was a abscess on my tonsil but then I got diagnosed with pharengitis now the right one and left one or both swollen inflamed I was just curious as to if the diagnosis has given is accurate and if I should schedule an appointment with the doctor as soon as possible thank you

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have an inflammation in throat secondary to infection and it is leading to swollen tonsils causing Tonsillitis along with sore throat that is due to Pharyngitis..
Fever is also due to infection which can be either due to bacterial or viral throat infection..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised:
-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection..
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain. -----Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
-Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
