Does Hysterectomy Help In The Treatment Of Endometriosis?

Hello. I just wanted to make sure I was making the right choice of having a partial hysterectomy next week. They are leaving my ovaries. I have endometriosis, in 2008 they removed a mass off of my uterus. And I ve been having abnormal papsmears. My doctor tells me that with my late and abnormal periods I could end up with cancer. Will they hysterectomy help with endometriosis and help prevent cancer?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
In simple language... endometriosis is escaped endometrium (inner lining of uterus)out side the uterus &gets laudged anywhere in peritonium/abdominal tissues. It's growth depends on menstrual hormones... so swells up at completion of each cycle.. producing the symptoms.
So when the ovaries are preserved &only uterus is removed ... the symptoms of lesions other than uterus will continue to trouble.
I would suggest for control of it's growth by hormonal suppliments I ( dose as per advise of a
gynecologist) till menopause.... when the condition becomes inactive .
Please discuss the thing with your treating gynecilogist...&decide whatever is beneficial to you.
Thanks
