Does Hard Stool Cause Bleeding?

Hello,

For the past couple days when I've gone to the bathroom I've wiped and noticed a bit of blood on the tissue. Upon the third wipe it's mostly gone and I don't bleed. I've had hard stool the last few times. There's no pain and the stool is a light brown. Should I be concerned?

Thanks!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you have constipation that is leading to hard and slightly brown stools and it is causing blood during wiping as while passing hard stools it might be causing traumatic injury to anal mucosa and leading to mild bleeding..
This conditions needs to be taken care as persisting injury can lead to anal fissures and it can cause severe pain and discomfort..
I would suggest you to start taking a high fibre diet, add more cereals and raw fruits and vegetables to your diet...
You can take stool softeners like Docusate..
Take laxatives like Polyethylene glycol or castor oil [acts both as laxative and lubricant..
Drink plenty of water and preferably warm water..
You can also take Psyllium or Lactulose..
Limit intake of tea and coffee..
Do moderate workout as it improves metabolism as well as take walk after meals..
In case if still the condition does not improve consult Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to get investigations like Colonoscopy, Barium Swallow to rule out the exact cause of problem and treat you accordingly..
He can advise you prescription medicines like Lubiprostone or Linclotide for relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
