Does Following HCG Diet Cause Clotting Issues?

I was recently diagnosed with factor five. I have never presented with any issues. I am a 42 year old female with four children. Carried them all full term and had natural births with no problems. I don't drink or smoke or take birth control. My question is concerning trying the new HCG diet in the form of drops. I've been told by my physician that I can't be treated with any hrt for any pre menopause issues so would the hcg fall under the same category and put me at risk for some clotting issue?

Yes, the HCG diet has been known to cause clotting issues. In fact, it is mentioned as one of the most frequently reported side effect. Please do not use this diet but rather choose a 1200 calorie balanced diet with 3 main meals and 2 snacks per day with an exercise program for 150 minutes per week at 70% of your Target Heart Rate. Weight loss will not come off to stay off unless lifestyle changes are committed to. Are you ready to do that?
Start measuring and weighing your foods until you can accurately visualize common portion sizes. People often eat more than they think. Here is a general template for your diet. Pick up an Exchange List (Used both for Diabetes and Weight). The American Diabetes Association or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietietics should carry them.
8-10 glasses of water per day
2 (8 0z) glasses of milk or milk equivalent (calcium should be 800 mg)
2 fresh fruit with the skin if possible (no juice, period)
2 starch vegies (red potatoes WITH skin, baked yams with a sprinkling of cheese ( 1oz cheese = 1 oz meat)choose provolone, swiss, mozzarella
free vegies: string beans, beets, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach
4-5 serv. of lean meat preferably (1 0z cheese/d ok on high fat meat list)
1-2 serving fat emphasize virgin olive oil, olives, use canola for cooking if virgin olive cannot be used

I have given you a great deal of information to think about. If you would like to take this further, please come back again with height, weight, desired weight, exercise habits, current labs, current medications and current problems or progress. I will still be here. Thank you for coming to HCM and I look forward to hearing from you again! Kathryn Shattler, MS, RDN
