Does Exposure To Skunk Fumes Cause Scratchy Throat, Nasal/chest Congestion And Cough?

A skunk sprayed righted outside our house and the smell is strong inside. I am now experiencing an scratchy throat, nasal congestion, and cough with chest congestion...could it be related to exposure to skunk fumes. Do I need to be seen by a doctor?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have scratchy throat, nasal/chest congestion and cough which seems to be due to allergic reaction to skunk fumes which leads to respirtory tract infection. I would suggest you to take should antiallergic medication such as Levocetrizine/ Sinrest and proper course of antibiotic such as Amoxicillin for 5-7 days. You should do warm saline gargles. Take cough expectorants as well. Avoid intake of cold beverages and spicy, sharp and oily food. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for throat swab test/ blood tests as well and start treatment after proper diagnosis.
