Does Excessive Beer Consumption After Dinner Cause Blood In Urine?

I am an 80-year-old Caucasian male in good health. I normally drink 3 or 4 beers of beer after dinner and before going to bed. Recently I discovered blood in my urine; I stopped drink beer and drank several glasses of water. By morning there was no more visible blood in my urine. Will beer alone cause blood in my urine?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Drinking beer does not have direct association with appearance of blood in urine. Blood in urine could be due to some form of infection associated with genitourinary tract or due to injury to mucosal lining of ureters by presence of renal stones. Kindly get your urine routine examination done and consult Urologist with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope the information provided helps. All the best.

Dr. Ashakiran. S
