Does Diverticulitis Cause Yellow Stools Or Is Pancreatic?

Diagnosed with severe diverticulitis about 3 weeks ago. Was put on a antibiotics which have run out. Symptoms never entirely went away but now have come back full force along with a yellow stool. I was also diagnosed in the past and this time, only mildly, with pancreatitis. Can the yellow stool be caused by the diverticulitis or is it more pancreatic??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of a known case of diverticulitis, pancreatitis and flareup of abdominal symptoms along with yellow stools.
The color of the stools is due to many factors like Bile, foods that you ate, pancreas functions, bacterial overgrowth and so on.
Simply yellow color does not give any idea about the internal problems.
Hence I would advise you te following in such a situation:
Get the stool tests for three consecutive days.
Relevant blood tests.
Contrast enhanced CT scan of abdomen for pancreas and colon.
Consult a Gastroenterologist for clinical correlation.
Once the cause is found the treatment will be as per the cause found to give you symptomatic relief and possible cured.
Regular follow up will help to get a better control over your problems.
Also identify the foods and beverages that increase or instigate the problems and avoid these at any cost.
Further management should be continued well as such problems need long term management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
