Does diverticulitis cause abdominal cramps?

Hello Dr. Rynne I hope you are well on this frigid day. My reason for inquiry is an increase in the frequency of a sudden pain. The pain can is located below my navel and seems to be centered. It can be a dull pressure at times which I have attributed to my diverticulitis. However recently I will get a sudden crampy feeling there......kind of the same feeling you get when you were unfortunately hit in the scrotum! I have not noticed a pattern as far as when it occurs. It will go away as fast as it comes on. I will feel like I have to have a sudden BM but not always. Is it related to my diverticulouses?

Yes, acute diverticulitis may present with pain abdomen, fever and blood and mucus in the stools. Same time you need to evaluate for other possibilities like appendicitis or dysentery or acute gastroenteritis or etcetera. Please consult your physician he will examine and do an abdominal scan, then treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
