Does Diabetes In Father Cause High Cholesterol And Triglyceride?

I am very upset with results I received from my doctor. I am on a heaklthy low fat high fiber, no sugar diet. Work out 5 days a week. However, went off my Simvastatin 3 weeks ago thinking I did not need it anymore. My cholesterol was 233 and triglycerides were 566. Is it because my father had diabetes?

Since your father is having diabetes, it is possible that diabetes and cholesterol tends to run in families. Since your cholesterol and triglycerides are high you have to continue the statin drug. This drug reduces the risk of heart attack significantly. Further by reducing triglyceride level you will also reduce the risk of attack of pancreatitis which is another serious condition. you must also continue your diet restriction. Statins have been proved to be safe drugs even if you take for decades; Hence don't get depressed.
