Does Diabetes Cause Eye Infection?

Hi, I am 41 years old. I had eye infection on my left eye for the past 18 days. It affected my cornea and slightly my sight also. I used steroid. Last week I was diagnosed with Diabetes (180). As I feel okay with the left eye, for the last two days my right eye also developed irritation and became reddish. The doctors stating it as conjunctivitis and bacteria infection. Is it because of my high sugar level? Please guide me. Thanks V Jons
