yes. Any chemical you put in your body effects it. Nicotine is a stimulant and effects your arteries whether you smoke it or absord it. It will raise your heart rate and add stress to your cardiovascular system. The only difference is, chew is absorbed quicker and goes directly into the blood stream, so It doesn't damage the lungs like cigarette smoke.Good for the lungs but bad for the cardiovascular system! It also gives you mouth cancer, jaw cancer, throat cnacer, lip cancer and rots your teeth. Plus they put metal in it to cut your gumbs to make absortion easier. Stay away from it...

I recently had a stent inserted in LAD artery and have totally quit smoking after 47 years of 1/2 pack a day. I am on blood pressure meds, blood thinners now, and lipitore, and janumet for sugar(borderline), not overweight . I smoke marijuana recreationally , a few joints on weekend. Unlike cigarettes , how will this affect my stent and arteries. I was a heavy smoker all my life of marijuana and the rest of my heart and arteries are good. Do you think occasional weekend usage will affect the stent and that area?

Yes. I am 57 years old and have hardening of the arteries I had several stents put in around my heart ( the WIdowmaker being one of them) in 2001. The doc told me to quit smoking -which miraculously i did do after 30 years of smoking. Problem - I chew tobacco now and am worried its just as bad for my arteries. Is it , Doc ?

Hello! I have been on xanax for 15 years and these past 2, years up to 3 mg. daily. I have smoked for 30 years, I am 56 years of age and just diagnosed with hardening of arteries in my abdominal aorta moderate to severe. Doctor now wants me to take 40 mg. of statin Lipitor which I will not!!! I have quit smoking a week now and have changed my diet! How did my doctor not see these condition years ago with labs and inflammation results coming back positive, I just happened across this diagnoses with a lower back X-Ray from pain I was having. . .i would have changed my life style. But will not take xanax and lipitor together as they both have affect on liver. And need to taper off xanax slowly as I am tolerant to them. Would Curcumin with Tumeric be a good move instead of statin to help my arteries which I believe was from all my years of smoking?

Our 31 year son has thoracic back issues. He is an addict, alcoholic and liar. He has been through rehab twice. At age 14 and again in his early 20 s. He is on MS contin prescribed by a pain doctor in Austin, TX. We just read the web information on MSContin and believe he should not be prescribed this medication as an addict. He is also a patient with MHMR. We believe he needs a dual diagnosis. Mental and Substance Abuse. Are there rehab centers that work with patients with no insurance with a dual diagnosis? He does not have a job. He got his TXDL back yesterday after a 180 day suspension for DUI. He still has not gone before the judge due to lawyer extensions. His biological father paid an attorney $2500 to represent him in court. The lawyer keeps putting extensions due to his schedule. The first court date was December. The second date was January and has now been pushed to February. We are concerned that his mentally ability combined with substance abuse (even though legally prescribed) keeps him from functioning. Do we stand to the side and watch the fall? Do we attempt to find a dual diagnosis treatment facility and try and get him on the new health care system (Obama Care)? We see the gravity of the situation and need guidance. If you can discuss dual diagnosis treatment facilities and the likelihood of Obama care paying for rehab? Thanks,
