Does Blood Sugar Level Of 233 Indicate Diabetes?

hi

My sugar level was normal a week back.I suffered from cough and cold for the past three days and when i checked my sugar level it got increased to 233.Am i a diabetic patient? Should i under go a treatment? But i dont see any of the symptoms relevance to diabetes.

Hello there,
I understand your concern regarding rise in sugar levels.
Sometimes during infection or with some medicines sugar levels may go up. To diagnose diabetes in your case I would suggest you get an Oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) along with HbA1c test so that we can confirm whether or not you are a diabetic. Based on one random reading we cannot tell you your diabetic status.
If your fasting value comes more than 125 and 2 hours after glucose load it comes more than 199 or HbA1c comes more than 6.4 then you are a diabetic.
Many a times diabetes does not present with any symptoms. The only way to tell is through blood tests.
