Does Blood Sugar Level Of 171 Indicate Diabetes?

My blood sugar was 171 one hour after eating a cheeseburger (with relish, tomatoes and avocado) and a few potato and sweet potato fries and 144 two hours after the meal (about 100 three hours after the meal). Am I diabetic? Is this normal? I am about 113 pounds and 5 6 (not overweight). I am afraid to eat any type of white bread or sugar for fear of killing my beta cells.

Thanks for contacting HCM

You are concerned that elevated blood sugars after eating may indicate diabetes. These levels are slightly elevated but not in the diabetic range. I would recommend you perform additional blood sugar testing. I would have you do a fasting blood sugar. It should not be more than 136. Then I would recommend repeating a blood sugar 2 hours after a meal. It should not be more than 160. At this point I do not say you are a diabetic. I recommend also to start a good general healthy diet with regular aerobic exercise. These efforts will help reduce your risk of diabetes.

Hello

To be diabetic the post prandial blood sugars two hours after meal should be more than 200 mg / dl.

So with the blood sugar values you got you are not a diabetic.
