Does Blood In Phlegm With Enlarged Spleen Need Immediate Medical Attention?

i ve been diagnosed with an enlarged spleen (16 cm / 6.5 cm) and had a CT Scan performed yesterday as well as lab work. The spleen is easily felt while in the sitting or standing positions. Now i was just awaken due to bile and when i looked i was coughing up a little blood. Is this common or has it become emergent? I do not have shortness of breath or wheezing

Hi,

Enlarged spleen and concurrent hemoptysis (coughing up blood) can be due to many causes.

The common causes include infections which decrease platelets (cells which help in clotting of blood) like viral illnesses and malaria.

Other causes may include lymphoma, leukaemias, chronic liver disease and myeloproliferative disorders.

It is therefore advised to meet your doctor, so all these causes may be ruled out and treat accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
