I started taking astaxanthin (5 mg for two days). About 2 years ago, I had a rash of nosebleeds needing 3 different cauterizations. Now, I try this astaxanthin and two days later I get a nosebleed for no reason whatsoever. Might it be from the two pills I took? Can I not take this supplement?
It may increase the risk of bleeding. Astxanthin is one of the most powerful and popular anti-oxidants with an array of multiple health benefits and is generally well tolerated by most of the patients. However, its common side effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea and red discoloration of the stool.
It is also reported to increase the risk of bleeding or blood clotting when taken with herbs or supplements that are believed to increase such risks. In view of the above you are advised to consult an ENT specialist for further evaluation and to rule out the possible causes of nosebleed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
