Does Antiviral Medications Cause Eating Disorders?
Hi My name is Cherisse Lo Giudice I have a question that need an answer to my mom is on anit viral meds but she refuse to eat. Doctors have told her if she doesn t eat she can have organ failure. I don t know what to do? I need some advise so I can help her Thank you so much I hope to hear from you soon
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
I understand that you are concerned about your mom's refusal to eat. It is possible that the manti-viral medication could be a cause for her eating problem. Anti-viral medication can cause nausea and poor appetite. It is also possible that they could have caused gastric irritation and hyperacidity, which again could have resulted in difficulty in eating.
It is true that not eating can reslt in a variety of medical complications. So, I would advise you to ask her doctor to examine her to see if she is having any hyperacidity or gastritis and prescribe her any medication, if necessary. You can also try giving her balnd food or liquid food which will be easier to take in and digest. If she is still refusing to eat at all, then you need to consider hospitalization and iv fluids.
Wish you all the best.
