Does An Infected Tooth Cause Chest Pains, Muscle Spasms And Numbness?

I had an infected tooth pulls that had roots into my sinus cavity. Severe pain for 7 days after in my whole face head and neck. A left side only horrible blinding searing nerve type pain headache. Now I am getting symptoms like Multiple sclorosis. The oddest nerve tingles, shooting electric pain, spasms in my muscles, I went to the ER thinking I was having a stroke or heart attack with numbness and tingling in my left toes and hand. Tightness on and off around my chest( and some times my stomach) and sides making it hard to draw a breath. I am so weak. I had 5days ago an episode where my head went numb,my eyes felt spacey, I felt high and dizzy, confused and my mouth dropped open,my vision was jumping like an old tv and I couldn t speak for 10 minutes. Then I got very tired passed out for 2 min. Awoke and went back out for 2 more. Last night I woke up and went to pull the covers up and my arms began to shake very badly. Must admit it scared me.Also the past 2 nights I awoke to my whole back vibrating. Today I have been very shakey when I do things with my arms. This is all so odd and my now ex family Dr saw no reason to look into these symptoms. Please help me make sense of what is happening. I am on my last day of amoxicillin for the infection. These spasms are happening while on Soma too.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. The symptoms you are experiencing are not related to the infected tooth extraction even if the roots were in the sinus cavity.

If a tooth has roots in the sinus cavity, when the tooth is extracted, the sinus lining may break making a communication between sinus cavity and oral cavity called oroantral fistula. Usually, when a dentist finds that this has happened, he/she takes sutures (stitches) to close the opening and gives antibiotics to prevent any further complications. Even if the opening is not closed and infection sets in, the symptoms may include leakage of food and drinks consumed from nose, sinusitis, congestion, pain in the sinus area, fever etc.

However, chest pain, numbness, muscle spasms and all the other severe symptoms you have described are not associated with oroantral fistula and infection. You are covered with antibiotics too to prevent infection setting in.

I would advise you to visit a neurologist for the neurological symptoms you are experiencing and can visit a pulmonologist for the chest pain. You can also visit the dentist treating you for the follow up of the area and sinus related symptoms.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
