Does An Arm Scratch With No Bleeding Need A Tetanus Injection?

I was scratched by a rusty nail yesterday at approx 3.15pm on my arm. It was a small scratch no bleeding, there was only a tiny bit of skin that lifted. We put antiseptic on it and covered it up with a large bandaid, this happened at work. I took the bandaid off today and the scratch is hardly visible with no break in the skin. Would I need to have tetanus shot?

Hi,

The risk of tetanus in this case is very minimal. Though you may go free this time, I recommend that you follow up with you doctors and update your immunization status so as to stay protected. Remember, protection is better than cure. It i worth it. You never know when something more serious can happen.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.
