Does A Positive Sputum Culture Mean A Repeat TB Treatment?

doc, have a gud day! done my tuberculosis treatment last may.. then the US Embassy request me for sputum.. I'm so worried about the result of my sputum it its positive coz they will have a sputum culture? is there tendency that they will repeat me another 6 months of treatment? thanks! carla

Yes. They will surely give you treatment. See this is quite possiblr to have TB again even if you completed the full course in past.this is known as relapse. So no need to worry start the treatment. I will also suggest you to get done sensitivity of both first line and second line drugs from the positive culture. This will tell you weather you are suffering from drug resistant tb or not. And also identify the anti tb drugs for which yourtb bacilli are sensitive.
