Does A Hole In The Sinus Along With Phlegm Require Medical Attention?

I have been treated for a sinus infection and when I went in to see the Dr. I had told them that I was exposed to petroleum distillates at work and had been for like 3 years on the daily. I was building fuel pumps for utility vehicles at work. A co worker informed me that she had done the job previously to me and had only done the job for 3 months and had to have a hole repaired in her sinuses. I had no idea that I was in harms way. I have been told by my doctor that I was having allergy problems and it happens to older adults. Environmental allergies. I constantly clear my throat from the time I get up and spit phlegm out and today I tried all day to clear my nose...It felt like something hanging in there. I finally got a large gob of phlegm out. I was a dark green and not clear at all. How do I get my doctor to listen to me. I have provided him a msds from work. All he did was chuckle. I know I'm not a doctor but what happens if I go untreated? I'm no longer doing this work, and haven't for almost 2 years. Thanks for listening.

Dear
I understand your concern of the occupational hazard.
petroleum vapours when inhaled do irritate our nasal mucosa and sinuses causing various symptoms.
If I would have been your occupational treating physician ,i would seriously examine the nasal cavities and advise with the required anti histaminics like cetrizine, levocetrizin or monteleukast with other topical spreys as required.
However please dont strain your nostrils, the mucous will come out in a normal sneeze of its own.Unnecessary straining or nose picking might injure the mucosa and sinus opennings causing further problem.
More over for more problem it is good to avoid such exposure or relocate yourself as you have rightly thought of.
please dont worry and stay calm.Take care
hope this helps
welcome for further queries
