Murmur occurs when there is turbulent blood flow. Innocent murmurs are quite common in children due to the high velocity of blood flow. Operation is not for the murmur, but for the heart disease which causes it. Only if the heart disease which causes the murmur is severe enough does it require an operation, not otherwise. So the first thing is to verify the cause of the murmur with your doctor. If it is due to heart disease, further investigations like an ECG, X-ray and echocardiogram are needed while deciding whether operation is required.

My girlfriend is 15 and she is what is known as a miricle baby. Her heart is a little too big and she has a heart murmur + a hole. She went to the doctors the 29 of Jan and they said its too dangerous to operate. Is she in any danger? What can I do to help? Will it ever go away?
I had a heart murmur as a baby but it quickly closed after about 6 months but since then my parents have been fond of reminding me that I can t have my ears pierced or get a tattoo any time I ask about piercings so I m wondering what the real risk involved is, if any. I ve been trying to look into it but most of the people who ve asked questions seem to involve them still having the condition or having to go through an operation to get rid of it which I didn t have to as it closed naturally so I m wondering if this affects the risk involved?
