I have been seeing online lately that Valsartan is a very bad drug and will harm your kidneys. I take 320 mg of Valsartan for High Blood Pressure and it has kept my pressure great. I had a hard time finding a drug that worked for me. However I have to watch my kidneys as the function number keeps going down. I am a F and 77 yrs. old. YYYY@YYYY
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure and failure. Its' common side effects include hypotension, dizziness, increased serum potassium level, swelling the eyelids or face.
It has been shown effective in preventing or at least slowing the process of kidney disease in patients with diabetes by interfering with the renin-angiotensin system. If your blood pressure is well controlled with the use of Valsartan, the declining kidney function could be due to some other cause which needs to be ruled out by your doctor.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
